On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, the United States held its 59th presidential election. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris from the democratic party defeated President Donald Trump and Mike Pence. He has been known before as vice president of Obama. Trump is the 11th president to lose for the presidency during the second term bid and the first since 1992. Biden received more than 81 million votes. That is the most votes ever cast for a presidential candidate. This election had the highest voter turnout (number of ballots) since 1900, with each of the candidates receiving over 74 million votes, overtaking Barack Obama’s 2008 record of 69.5 million votes.
