In Seoul South Korea, EveR 6 is earning itself some fame. After its extraordinary conductance on the podium of Korea’s national orchestra, it was a mind-blowing performance. But it wasn’t a normal conductor it was an Android robot, This was the first such attempt in the country. Ever. EveR 6 was designed by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology. It made its debut at the National Theater of Korea, Designed to look and act like a usual conductor. In the beginning, it first bowed to the audience and started waving its arms to control the audience. Rg to Coi Soo-yeoul who was the side-conductor said “Movements by a conductor are very detailed. The robot was able to present such detailed movements better than I had imagined.” Though very accurate. It cannot listen. Lee Young-Ju is an audience member studying traditional Korean music. He said that though the robot is “impeccable”  at keeping rhythm it lacked “breath” the ability to keep the orchestra’s speed. Another audience member, Song In-ho said that the bot’s performance was at an elementary level. “I guess it would be able to do the conducting all by itself when it’s equipped with AI to understand and analyze the music,” he said. The robot guided three of five pieces on Friday including one jointly with Choi. “It was a recital that showed that robots and humans can co-exist and complement each other, rather than one replacing the other,” Choi explained after the concert had ended.
